A conference on "The bodies of our ancestors: ancient human remains and the past in the future" supported by Fritz Thyssen Stiftung will be organized on July 5-7, 2013. Course participants will be included in the event.

Target group

The main target group is doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, operating in the fields of funerary archaeology, history, physical anthropology, genetics, paleopathology, paleodemography, and zooarchaeology, who are interested in getting acknowledged with the more up-to-date techniques of bio-archaeological research. MA students will also be considered. Other persons operating in the field of cultural and historical heritage, such as museums or research institutes, are also eligible. Undergraduates without a university degree will not be considered.


Course participants are expected to have a degree in archaeology, history or physical anthropology. Participants should come prepared for a highly interdisciplinary and interactive learning experience.

Language requirement

The language of instruction is English, thus all applicants have to demonstrate a strong command of spoken and written English to be able to participate actively in discussions at seminars and workshops. Some of the shortlisted applicants may be contacted for a telephone interview.
